Throughout his distinguished career, Randell Stoney dedicated his practice to premises and product liability, construction law and litigation, and general liability defense. After decades of success as a prosecutor and civil defense litigator, Randell now focuses on mediation. His tremendous trial experience affords him a highly nuanced view and allows him to stay neutral successfully. He finds great reward and satisfaction in helping litigants work through the issues of their lawsuits and achieve resolutions, which they, and not a jury, accomplish together. Randell has been a certified mediator and arbitrator for 25 years.
Often recognized for his litigation acumen, Randell is regularly included in Best Lawyers in America and South Carolina Super Lawyers. Best Lawyers named him the 2021 Personal Injury Litigation – Defendants Charleston Lawyer of the Year, and Super Lawyers named him a Top-Rated Civil Litigation Attorney in 2016. Additionally, Randell holds an AV Martindale-Hubbell rating, representing the highest level of professional excellence.
Being active in the legal community is a pillar of Randell’s success. He is a member of the Defense Research Institute, the South Carolina Defense Trial Lawyers Association, the International Association of Defense Counsel (IADC), and The American Board of Trial Advocates. Randell is a past president of the Charleston County Bar Association and served on its Executive Committee. He also served on the Berkely County Bar Association Executive Committee.
Randell has deep roots in Charleston and the Low Country. His grandfather began practicing law in Charleston over 100 years ago. Before entering private practice, he served the Ninth Circuit as an assistant solicitor for Charleston County and as the deputy solicitor for Berkeley County.
Deeply committed to his community, Randell’s vocations and avocations leave a decided impression: he is a steward as well as an attorney. He currently serves as a member of the Board of Trustees of Campbell University, the Vestry of St. James Parish Goose Creek, the Vestry of St. John’s Parish Berkely, he is the Chancellor for St. James Anglican Church, James Island, and on the board of several charitable organizations. His past service includes the Advisory Board for the Center for Heirs Property, a non-profit organization formed to protect the property rights of “family land” owned by low-income residents of the Low Country, the American Cancer Society, Goodwill Industries, the Preservation Society of Charleston, the Alumni Board of the College of Charleston, and fifteen years on the Board of Trustees of Trident Technical College. Randell also served the Commissioners of Pilotage for the Port of Charleston as a member and its chair.
